My Story
I am a Wiradjuri artist, from Peak Hill in NSW, currently living in Western Australia.
My art is a deep reflection of my personal journey, capturing thoughts and experiences that have shaped me. Through landscapes and the use of motifs, I transform these reflections into powerful visual narratives, using art as a medium to understand, process, and share my innermost feelings.
I enjoy developing my own personal style, working with bold colours and coarse textures. I would describe my process as raw and intuitive.
My Process
My work is a continuous exploration of the landscapes of the mind, where emotions and memories intertwine with the natural world. Inspiration comes to me intuitively and sporadically, often as flashes of fully formed artworks in my mind. I quickly sketch them on my phone so I don’t forget the details. Sometimes these visions come in waves. There are hundreds of draft artworks on my phone that I have yet to paint. I’m not sure if this process is unique or common, but I know I never consciously decide what to paint; instead, these visions guide the creation of each piece.
Through this experience, I’ve come to understand that these artworks serve a purpose. Using motifs and simple compositions, I aim to capture the subtle interplay between internal experiences and the external environment. Each piece I create is a journey through thought and feeling, using the landscape as both a metaphor and a medium. The recurring elements in my work—trees, rocks, hills—serve as symbols of growth, introspection, and connection. As my artistic and spiritual journey deepens, new motifs emerge, and new meanings come to light. As I learn to decipher these, I realise they are not just visual elements but are imbued with personal significance, representing the emotions and experiences I’ve navigated and learned from. They’re a piece of the puzzle—a key to unlocking the themes and meanings behind the artworks that appear in my mind and compel me to paint.

Themes and Meaning
Art, for me, is more than a form of expression; it is a means of understanding and connecting with my inner most thoughts. My process involves deep reflection, allowing me to translate complex emotions into visual forms that allow me to process and heal.
My work predominantly explores themes of overcoming personal challenges and embracing transformation, focusing on the journey from self-doubt and insecurity to growth and renewal. It also celebrates imagination, escape, and connection to nature and pays homage to my home and family. As my artworks often come to me as brief visions, the meaning behind each piece is usually revealed as I’m painting it or sometime after I’ve finished. I might experience something that triggers an image of an artwork I have created, and it’s only then that I realise what the intuitively received artwork was trying to convey. The main lesson I gain from my art is to trust in my intuition and those who guide me, and most importantly, to live in the present moment.
Early Works
I was extremely artistic as a child, but I never pursued art as an adult until recently. I began painting in 2020 at the onset of the pandemic. What started as a distraction quickly evolved into a crucial form of escapism and coping as the pandemic dragged on and border restrictions prevented me from flying home to see my family. My early works deeply reflect the emotions I was experiencing during this time. They typically featured my solitary self, isolated and lost in a flat, vacant landscape, capturing the profound sense of separation and solitude. It would be two years before I could reunite with my family, and this challenging period profoundly shaped the direction of my art.
Evolution
After the border restrictions were lifted and I was finally able to return home, I noticed a significant shift in my work. The visions that guided my art began to feature more motifs, a change I attribute to being back on Wiradjuri Country. This place, highly significant to my identity, began to deeply influence my creativity. The landscapes and motifs that are characteristic my home became prominent in my art, forging a new direction and a resurgence in both my practice and my confidence.
When I returned to Western Australia, new inspiration emerged, and motifs characteristic of my surroundings began to appear in my work. My art began to represent the merging of two landscapes—Noongar Boodja and Wiradjuri Country: the place where I live and the place tied to my spirit. I think this crossover and merging of landscapes representative in my work was crucial turning point in my personal healing. I was able to accept my circumstances and felt reinvigorated to keep pursing life on this side of the country. I felt there were more untapped opportunities waiting for me.
Looking Forward
As I continue my journey, my focus is on finding a sustainable balance between work, art, and life. I aim to ease into a rhythm that allows me to guide my art in a direction that feels natural and fulfilling, while also prioritising my health and wellbeing. My hope is to create freely, without pressure, and to nurture a practice that is as healing for me as it is meaningful for those who connect with my work.
